Hello, I’m Jantina Masters, the founder of Mrs. Masters Music Class, and Young Musician Academy. I am a graduate of Fisk University, with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, and almost 23 years of experience teaching preschool, and music to grades K-12. Through this blog, I am bringing my experiences in the classroom, and with my students to this space to share with others!
In 2019, the birth of my daughter brought me home from teaching musical theatre and choir to K-12 students in Irving, Texas. The Covid-19 pandemic followed that life decision like an unpredictable storm. I was faced with homeschooling my then 10 and 12 year old sons, and raising our first and only daughter at home. A former homeschooler and ECE educator, I was excited to began blogging and creating online curriculum, and teaching voice lessons online. Online education became the new normal during that time, and a foundation was laid that seemed to drive me in a direction towards the unknown. I only took on a total of two students during that first year, but God was writing the blueprint then, and while the beginning stages were unfolding slowly, I look back now, and see that it was nothing small being built…but something bigger than I could see then.
My greatest and most rewarding job is not teaching, it is being a wife and mother. The inspiration for every lesson has come through caring for, and serving my family. My greatest creativity came alive during the seasons that I homeschooled my older children, and stayed home with my youngest. This blog exists because of what I started creating, and dreamed of sharing during those seasons. I dreamed of becoming a full-time, online private music teacher, curriculum & content creator, but the struggle to launch my business and stay home with my children seemed to delay the manifestation of that dream. My education and experience in music always opened doors for me to go back into the classroom. In 2023, I returned again, to teach General Music to middle school students. The Lord led me to begin documenting and recording my lessons, and gave me the vision to recreate them in video form for children everywhere to watch and learn music. I was afraid to do it, and waited for a full two years before I officially launched the idea. God put it strongly in my heart that the content and curriculum I was creating in the classroom was meant to reach students globally. In December of 2024, I relaunched my online music school, Young Musician Academy, and relocated with my family from Fort Worth, Texas, to Graniteville, South Carolina! Our leap of faith produced the fruit of new connections in a new community, and the determination to make this dream a reality in a new place.
Young Musician Academy is now an official online space, where students are studying private and group lessons with me in piano and voice! My husband and children are an integral part of this vision now! My husband and I work together, to create purposeful, wholesome content that teaches the basics of music and singing to all ages. Mr. Masters and I launched our live preschool music class in the Spring of 2023, and are now bringing that incredible experience of teaching ages 4 and under in person to littles in spaces all over the world!
There were many days when I wanted to give up on this dream, and thought that the lack of capital to get it started with a bigger audience was what held me back. Many times I believed that the timing to launch would be best when my children were older. You are seeing the fruit of my yes to keep doing this even when it was hard! Every post, video, product and lesson was created in the midst of a growing family, sudden and unexpected changes, challenges, struggles, losses and wins. I am so thankful that I never gave up, and you are here because I didn’t quit!
This blog is for the moms, all parents and caregivers, homeschoolers, and teachers who aspire to find that specific lesson or activity for your children.! When I was in the classroom, I was discouraged many times because limited materials and curriculum were available to me. Due to low budgets and NO budgets, I was forced to spend countless hours searching for free resources and materials I could use to teach my students music, and provide them with a quality learning experiences. In order to get time back for my family, and myself, I made the decision to create what I was looking for, and couldn’t find. The catalogue of resources I created is allowing me to be present with my family again, and gain more of what I sacrificed in seasons past to provide for my family. I truly pray that the wealth of resources and information that you discover here, will be an answer and a solution for you and your students, your family, your choir, and whoever else needs what’s here!
